Illustrated Storybook by Celebrated Singer and Hymn Writer Kristyn Getty Inspires Kids to Lift Their Voices to the Lord

The whole earth is a symphony to God. The universe echoes his glory, and believers harmonize with songs of adoration. In the illustrated book Pippa and the Singing Tree, singer and hymn writer Kristyn Getty teaches children how they can answer Scripture’s call to worship.

Playing outside one chilly autumn day, Pippa is surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature. The great trees, robins, and icy winds―depicted in charming lyrical prose―all witness to God’s majesty. Moved by the beauty around her, Pippa lifts her voice, adding her own song to the chorus.

Combining beauty and rhythm with artwork by P. J. Lynch, this story makes a great gift or church resource. In a special note at the end of the book, Getty shares some of her favorite psalms, along with prompts that will inspire kids to worship the Lord.

Written by Kristyn Getty: Grammy-nominated singer brings her lyrical talent to a book on worship
Illustrated Story for Ages 5–8: Rhythmic prose and beautiful illustrations capture kids’ imaginations
A Great Gift for Families and Churches: Perfect for story time or as a supplemental Sunday school resource

This picture book celebrates God’s creation and the joy of worshiping through song. Kristyn Getty, a well-known Christian singer and songwriter, partnered with illustrator P. J. Lynch to create this beautiful book. The text is lyrical and flows well, and it includes onomatopoeia, representing the sounds that a child’s favorite tree makes. The story conveys that the tree and the surrounding birds are worshiping God, and shows how the little girl joins in with her own song. The illustrations are absolutely stunning, both in the depiction of nature and of human characters. I love the visible joy that radiates from the little girl’s face.

At the end of the book, there are a few pages with the author’s reflections for parents and caregivers. This section speaks more about the importance of worshiping through song, and includes some Bible verses on the subject. As a whole, this book is more of a teaching tool than a story. There isn’t much of a plot, but the poetic writing style and outstanding illustrations make up for that. The illustrations are breathtaking and full of stunning details, and they show the transition from winter to spring.

Pippa and the Singing Tree: Joining the Song of All Creation is a lovely book that Christian families will appreciate. The book celebrates the joy of glorifying God while connecting with nature, and I recommend this for families, churches, and Christian schools. This is a wonderful example of faith-based children’s literature that is artistically excellent and shares a profound message.
