Promise, a talented young singer with a terminal illness, is counting on fame to keep her memory alive after she dies. Porta is an aging sorceress and art collector in search of immortality.

When Promise inexplicably survives a series of freak accidents, Porta believes that she may hold the key to eternal life.

Enter Chase, an autistic artist who falls in love with Promise and fascinates her with his mysterious visions and drawings.

Soon, all are plunged into a confrontation over the mystery and the cost of something even greater than eternal life . . . eternal love.

Chase Ellis is an artist, and like most artists he is quite unique. His drawings—only in white, always white against a black background—are magnificent as they are mysterious. And they are always of trees. I see people, they look like trees walking around. Chase also has a way of looking into the human soul in ways that most cannot. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that he’s autistic. In any case, Chase will soon see the reason he has been drawing trees.

Porta Cerreto and Promise Dayton are kindred souls knit together with a similar passion that manifests itself in contrasting ways. Porta is an aging art collector and practitioner of the occult on a quest to find the secret to eternal life. Promise, a 22 year old suffering from terminal cystic fibrosis, seeks her own immorality by achieving a legacy of fame. Each longs for the same thing in their own way—immortality.

When Promise manages to survive what should have been a fatal fall, Porta begins to wonder if she might hold the key to the eternal life she seeks. Things get even more complicated when Chase works his way onto the scene, declaring his love for Promise and decrying Porta as evil. The quest for eternal life soon becomes something more—the realization of eternal love.

In many ways, The Promises She Keeps is a book that defies simple description. Complex characters, a plot steeped in imagery and eloquence, and a theme that rests its basis on the greatest of themes…The Promises She Keeps is no light read. Sure, it can be read as such, but do so would be to miss the beauty of the true Story within.

Just as in her first solo novel, Never Let You Go, Healy creates memorable and unique characters that leap off the page. Her depictions of both autism and cystic fibrosis ring true to life and bring depth to the characters. The book’s imagery, especially that of plants and growth, is quite poignant to the discerning reader.

The Promises She Keeps is a beautiful tale of eternal love that has implications far beyond that of just the romantic kind. Different in style than Never Let You Go, but just as good. Healy thrives when telling tales of spirituality and mystery—those stories where the realm of the supernatural just barely kisses this realm—and that is what defines The Promises She Keeps. Long known as a top-notch editor, Healy is quickly making a name for herself as a top-notch author as well.
