Many authors can't manage the same level of characterization and depth that Tosca Lee crams into fifty action-packed pages. Don't think of this as a prelude, prologue, or promotional teaser for The Legend of Sheba, treat it like it's a story in and of itself: beautiful, complex, and deep. And, best of all, free!

A mysterious beauty, a destiny set in the stars. Born under an inauspicious sign, young Ismeni is feared by her own people. The single thing she prays for: to live an invisible life. But that is not to be for the young woman who has captured the attention of the king’s youngest son. A story of love, passion, and twists of fate through the eyes of the woman who will one day give birth to the legendary Queen of Sheba.

With the rise of ebooks, more and more authors have begun offering ebook extras such as free chapters, promotional material, and ebook exclusive prologues that serve as appetizers to help whet their readers’ appetite for the full course. Lee first experimented with the ebook prelude back in The Books of Mortals, coauthored with Ted Dekker, in a short story called The Keeper.

Ismeni follows the story of the titular character, future mother of Bilqis, the Queen of Sheba. Lee manages to fit in a whole novel’s worth of character development into just a few pages as she speeds through Ismeni’s tragically beautiful storyline. And despite being a “short” story free prequel, Ismeni weighs in at almost sixty pages, making it worth the read. Sure, it’s promotional material, but it’s not some hacked together slop put together in a day. Tosca put time and thought and effort and her soul into this, and it shows.

Read this. You won’t be disappointed. And don’t forget to check out the full length novel The Legend of Sheba.
