Two stories in one book! The Little Bible Heroes flip-over book series is an easy to read and fun to look at retelling of biblical stories in a way that even the youngest of children can understand.
Usually I can figure out why the Little Bible Heroes flip-book tells the two stories they do. Joshua/Rahab makes sense because of the chronology. Easter/Christmas makes sense because of their importance. At the outset, the stories of Samuel and The Little Maid seem not to have much connection.
Who is this little maid anyway? In one of the lesser-known stories of Scripture, 2 Kings 5 recounts the narrative of a man named Naaman, who had leprosy. After his army raided an Israelite town and captured an Israelite girl as a servant, this young unnamed girl suggested that Naaman see the prophet Elisha about his problem. Naaman does and is healed.
To me, this is one of the most underrated and undertold stories in Scripture and I’m overjoyed that Victoria Kovacs has included it.
Keeping with the theme and making the not-so-obvious connection between the two stories, is the story of young Samuel. Kovacs recounts his time as a child in the temple serving under Eli and having the voice of God come to him in the night.
Both stories are about young children doing extraordinary things and being true Little Bible Heroes. While all volumes of the series teach Biblical truths and a moral, this one especially helps little kids understand that even they—at any age—can be a Little Bible Hero too!
